Nude witch camp fights closure after neighbours complain

A camp that allows witches to hold naked retreats is trying to avoid being closed down.

Officials have refused to renew a land use licence for Earth Rising, which runs the Gaea Retreat Centre in Kansas State.

The company says its constitutional rights have been violated.

Neighbours complained about public nudity and drug abuse.

"They say they're afraid of us - what we do here, the sound of drums.

They don't know how lucky they are to have us as their neighbours,'' caretaker Wanda Roths says. "We're very quiet, very peaceful. There has never been any trouble out here."

She says there are "clothing optional" parts of the grounds, and witches, Wiccans and other pagans do hold night-time meetings around bonfires.

Without the land permit, the Leavenworth camp can't operate, USA Today reports.
