Police Evacuate Church Of Scientology Celebrity Centre

The Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International was evacuated for about two hours Tuesday while police determined that no explosives were in a "suspicious package" left outside the hotel, officials said.

A box about 3-by-2 feet was found about 4 a.m. near the hotel at 5950 Franklin Ave., said Sgt. Gene Smith of the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Station.

"The call came in as a suspicious package," Smith said.

A police bomb squad sent to the scene found that no explosives were in the package, and the area was declared safe after a couple of hours, a sergeant said.

Nearby streets were closed to traffic during the investigation.
