Doctor Testifies In Sect Dad's Murder Trial

The effects and eventual death caused by malnutrition was the topic of testimony Tuesday at the Jacques Robidoux murder trial.

NewsCenter 5's Rhondella Richardson said that Robidoux is accused of starving his son Samuel to death.

Lawyers asked Dr. Eli Newberger, a pediatrician from Boston Children's Hospital, what would happen if a child's food was replaced with only breast milk.

"His face would appear sunken. His eyes would be glassy," Newberger said.

According to Monday's testimony from the child's aunt, Samuel Robidoux lost his full round face and stopped crawling. She said that he had to be carried.

"He would be conserving all of his strength and would not be able to get around by himself," Newberger said.

On cross-examination, the defense attorney questioned Newberger's history of testifying for the state.

Newberger said that he earned $4,000 in 2001 testifying for the state. The defense then drilled him on diseases that might lead to a child's death.
