France has detained more than 1,000 radical Muslims and expelled 14 of them this year in a stepped-up campaign against fundamentalism, said Dominique de Villepin, the French interior minister, on Thursday.
New police teams dedicated to combating ‘radical’ Islam have also inspected all mosques and Muslim institutions in the greater Paris area, reducing the number of fundamentalist meeting places from 32 to 20, he told the Le Figaro newspaper in an interview.
