Mosques offer open houses to teach public about Islam

Two mosques will have open houses Sunday to build bridges with the public and teach others about their faith. The Islamic Center of Irving, 245 E. Grauwyler Road, Suite 118, will be open from 2 to 5 p.m.
"Basically we're just trying to have some understanding and answer [the public's] questions," said Abdul Raouf, mosque project manager.
The event will feature Middle Eastern food and a presentation on Islam. Call 972-721-9136.
The Islamic Association of North Texas and the Dallas Central Mosque also will hold an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the mosque, 840 Abrams Road, Richardson.
The event will include tours, lectures, children's activities and continuous showing of the documentary Empire of Faith. Call 972-231-5698.
The Dallas Central Mosque has collected about $25,000 for the Red Cross.
The Islamic Council of Tarrant County, which held an interfaith prayer service Thursday, donated $40,000 to the Red Cross.
