No fewer than 25 students were at the weekend arrested by the men of the Oyo State Police Command in a continued cult clash between members of Eiye and Black Axe confratanity in which 3 students including a 24 year old Mass Communication Student, Adeniyi Aderemi were murdered.
P. M. News reliably gathered that the cult war started around 8. 00 p.m last Tuesday when Adeniyi Aderemi was lured from his parent's residence at Apete area of Ibadan and was shot and matcheted by the opposing cult gang.
Few minutes after the killing, members of the Oodua Peoples Congress OPC swung into action and arrested seven students including two female students. The female students were allegedly caught with bullets in their bags, and were subsequently handed over to the police.
Investigation also revealed that shortly after Aderemi was killed, members of his gang at the Eruwa campus of the school went to the chief security officer of the campus to seek permission to embark on a peaceful protest of the killing of their members. The CSO according to sources declined the request on the ground that the alleged slain student has been rusticated from the polytechnic.
Apparently unsatisfied by the CSO position the students went ahead with the protest. In the process a total of 18 cultists were later apprehended by men of the Oyo State police force.
Speaking with P.M. News, the state police public relations officer , Mr. Opeyemi Kujore confirmed the arrest of the eighteen students. They have since been kept at Eleyele police command and may be paraded today by the state police command.
Meanwhile, two other students of the polytechnic are on the wanted list of the police. As the manhunt continued, however, some students of the polytechnic at Apete has vacated their residence. When P.M. News visited the school yesterday, most houses occupied by the students were still under lock and key.
