Reverend Mateus Justino Chaves, head of the Baptist theologic seminary of Huambo province, has recently exhorted faithfuls and the population in general, in this central region, to keep on fighting against the proliferation of religious sects in Angola, a phenomenon, according to him, that has been growing.
The reverend, who was speaking during a religious service in the ambit of the celebrations of the 18th anniversary of the referred seminary, marked on October, said that one of the mechanisms to combat this phenomenon is by adequate training of religious leaders.
He has said that the entrance of sects in Angola is a great danger to this society, because many of these sects try to implant the cultures and beliefs of the countries they come from.
"Joining these sects represents an ill and distortion of the usages and customs of our society", he has stressed.
He has pointed out economic interests of the population as being one of the main factors making people join religious sects, since they try to entice needy people with promises of improving their lives.
Rev. Mateus Justino Chaves added that citizens should continue to keep faithful to their usages and customs, respecting the Angolan tradition, instead of distorting it, as has been happening lately.
