There are mounting concerns over the prolonged detention of two executives of the Inter-religious Council of Liberia. Mr. David Kiazolu , Secretary General and Rev. Christopher Toe, Assistant Secretary of the council have been detained for more than a week without charge.
The two men were reportedly by state security officers. But their detention has not gone down well with a local human rights organization.
The National Human Rights Center of Liberia is urging the Liberian Government to release the men or accord them a fair and speedy trial if there is reason to prosecute them.
According to a release issued at the weekend, the center indicated that the prolonged detention of the two men without charge, is a complete violation of their fundamental rights to due process of law.
David Kiazolu and Rev. Toe were reportedly arrested last December 28, and has since been detained at the National Security Agency, NSA Touching on the detention of its project officer Aloysius Toe, the center also stressed the need for speedy trial in Toe Treason Case saying that the impartial and speedy adjudication of the trial is paramount in building public confidence in the rule of law in the country.
Aloysius Toe is being detained on Treason charges for his alleged collaboration with the LURD Rebels.
