Seven persons are awaiting the amputation of their right wrists in Zamfara State for stealing.
This was disclosed yesterday by the Director General, State Directorate of Sharia Implementationand Monitoring, Dr Atiku Balarabe Zawiyya, while fielding questions from newsmen in Gusau.
He said all the victims were convicted by the Sharia courts in the state.
He said the victims had conceded being tried in the Sharia courts, pointing out that period allowed for appeal against the judgement had expired.
Zawiyya said his directorate had pleaded with the state ulama (Islamic scholars) consultative committee to review the judgement before execution.
When asked about those "waiting for stoning to death", the director general said his directorate had no such case at the moment.
