It was pandemonium yesterday as students and teachers scampered for safety when a group of suspected cult members invaded the premises of Timehin High School, Osogbo, Osun State. The irate students said they were protesting the suspension of one of their members by the school principal.
The incident, which caught parents and other residents off guard, resulted into withdrawal of students by the parents.
An eye-witness account informed THISDAY yesterday that the suspected cultist, an SSS2 student (name withheld) had earlier been suspended from the school by the principal for an alleged unruly behaviour and thuggery.
The eye-witness account had it that the suspect, angered by his suspension mobilised his members who, armed with cutlasses, charms and other dangerous weapons, invaded the school premises at Isale Osun area of Osogbo, looking for the principal and other members of the staff.
Their activities caused confusion as students and teachers took to their heels to escape being attacked by the cultists.
Amid the commotion, the principal of the school, Mr David Adedeji, contacted the Oja Oba Police Station and the policemen came on time to arrest four of the gang members. They were, however, detained at Oja Oba Police Station.
Narrating his ordeal, the school's principal, Adedeji, said he suspected that the suspended student and his gang belong to a secret cult.
"The situation has been brought under control by the police, the boy was duly suspended because of his unruly behaviour and because we don't want him to be of bad influence to other students," Adedeji said.
