A group of people killed a 45-year old woman at Sarugaon tea garden in Jalpaiguri district allegedly for practising witchcraft, police said on Monday.
A large number of people, mainly her neighbours, dragged Ratni Gowala out of her house and killed her on the spot on Sunday.
After the death of a son, a couple had consulted a 'janguru' (witch doctor) who claimed that Ratni was a witch and was responsible for the boy's death. According to his prescription, she was killed, police said.
Fourteen persons were arrested in connection with the killing. However, the 'janguru' was absconding.
