Dalai Lama promotes religion at interfaith temple dedication

The Dalai Lama, visiting the US heartland for the dedication of a new interfaith temple, urged people of all religions to stick to their principals of love, understanding and brotherhood.

"It is my strong belief that the key message of all the major world religious traditions really is the same. It is a message of love, the importance of forgiveness, understanding, and brotherhood," the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader said.

"These teachings like love, forgiveness, contentment, self-discipline, these should be in our daily life. If you agree, then please practice."

The Dalai Lama traveled to Bloomington, Indiana, to dedicate a temple at the Tibetan Cultural Center, founded by his elder brother, Thubten Norbu, a retired Indiana University professor.

The Chamtse Ling -- "Field of Love and Compassion" -- temple was built to promote cooperation between the world's religions through workshops, seminars, and conferences.
