Teacher in the clear on religious quote

A French teacher will not be disciplined for writing a biblical quotation on her classroom chalkboard – and allegedly retaliating against a student who complained. After speaking with the school's administration, the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees decided there was no cause to discipline teacher Marianne Angel for posting a quotation from John 1:14 on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks despite the protest of student Sierra Leffers. "The fact that she is not being punished at all is kind of a slap in the face," said Leffers, who practices the Wicca religion. Leffers said when she asked Angel to remove the quotation, she was told to talk to the assistant principal and then was transferred into a class taught by another teacher. Leffers said she lost her role as French Club president and was removed from a summer trip to France. After the American Civil Liberties Union contacted the district, Leffers said she was placed back on the trip roster and is serving as co-president of the French Club.
