Western-Born Tibetan Buddhist Master to be Enthroned as Reincarnated Buddhist Saint

GREEN, USA - On July 7, 2001 a western-born Buddhist meditation master will be enthroned as the incarnation of Vidyadhara Terton Padma Lingpa, one of the greatest religious figures in Tibetan history, in a rare public ceremony to be held at the Palyul Ling Retreat Center in upper New York state.

The Venerable Lama Jampa Rabjampa Rinpoche will be formally recognized as the mind emanation of Padma Lingpa by His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, supreme head of the Nyingma or ancient school of Tibetan Buddhism founded over 1,000 years ago. Padma Lingpa, a 16th century Tibetan Buddhist saint, was renowned as one of the Five Great Kingly Tertons or religious treasure revealers, as well as for his miraculous abilities, wisdom teachings, compassion and complete mastery of Dzog Chen, the most ancient and profound of all Buddhist meditation practices. Padma Lingpa is also recognized as the subsequent reincarnation of LongChenpa, the great 13th century Buddhist scholar, poet and meditation master.

Born in Cuba of German and Spanish parents, Rinpoche began teaching meditation shortly after his arrival in Canada in 1959. He received monk's vows from His Holiness the 16th Karmapa in 1977 and was subsequently given the title of Lama or teacher. Over the years Rinpoche has received extensive teachings from all of the major lineage holders of Tibetan Buddhism. In 1997 His Holiness Penor Rinpoche bestowed the title of Vajracharya (tantric meditation master) upon Rinpoche during a private ceremony.

Rinpoche is the official Canadian representative of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche as well as the Abbot of Orgyan Osal Cho Dzong, the country's oldest Tibetan Nyingmapa Buddhist monastery and retreat center located near Toronto in a vast wilderness preserve.
