Antioch church shuts down controversial 'Bible camp' after court ruling

Under a court order, an Antioch church shut down its daily "Bible camp" on Wednesday.

The only people to show up at the Priest Lake Community Baptist Church Wednesday morning were removing teaching materials. On Tuesday, a Davidson County judge ordered the church to close the camp or get a state license to operate as a daycare.

Church pastor Harold Frelix, Sr. said, "All we wanted was to teach our children. We did not want to become anything but the church. We wanted to teach our children in the name of the Lord and not in the name of the state."

Church officials say parents knew they might have to move their children, and had apparently already made arrangements to do so. The state Department of Human Services has offered to help parents locate other child care facilities. The court battle continues with another hearing next week.
