Five women who are connected with God's Creation Church in Kansas City, Kan., pled no contest to attempted child abuse charges and were found guilty on Friday, KMBC's Bev Chapman reported.
The pastor of the church, Neil Edgar, and his wife, Christy Edgar, were convicted earlier this year of first-degree murder for the suffocation death of their 9-year-old adopted son. Brian Edgar died after being wrapped from head to foot in duct tape in December 2002. Baby-sitter Chasity Boyd was also convicted of murder in the case.
The five women were charged as a result of an investigation after the boy's death. After entering their pleas, a judge found Julia Edgar-Montgomery, Renita Allen-Jackson, Patricia A. Walker, Idella Horton and Barbara Clark guilty.
The women remain free on bond. No sentencing date has been set.
Additional charges remain against Boyd and Christy Edgar.
