Pastor who threatened to burn Quran set to protest in Dearborn

Detroit, USA - The controversial pastor who caused a worldwide uproar over his threats to burn the Quran, the Islamic holy book, last year is planning a protest outside a Dearborn mosque next month, according to a spokeswoman for the Florida minister.

Pastor Terry Jones plans to demonstrate against "radical Islam" in Dearborn on April 22 as part of an "Anti-Sharia & Jihad Protest" in front of the Islamic Center of America mosque on Ford Road .

"It is necessary that we set very clear lines for Muslims that are here in America," Jones said in a press release today. "They are welcome to be here. They are welcome to worship. They are welcome to build mosques. But we do expect them to honor and obey our Constitution. If they desire to change our Constitution, in other words to institute Sharia (Islamic law), then these Muslims are no longer welcome in our country. Now is the time that we make a very, very clear statement to radical Islam."

Jones, pastor of Dove World Outreach Center church in Gainesville, Fla., grabbed international headlines last September after threatening to burn the Quran as part of his designated "Burn a Quran Day." Jones later backed away from his threats.

But, according to a spokeswoman for Jones, he did burn a Quran on Sunday.

Dearborn city officials were not available for comments on Jones' planned visit. Efforts to reach officials at the Islamic Center of America also were not successful.
