Bauchi, Nigeria - THE widow of a soldier killed during the last Bauchi Prison break attempt has been compensated with N500,000 and assorted food items by the Bauchi State Government.
Lance Corporal Danjuma Abubakar of the 33 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Bauchi, was killed during the bloody jail break attempt believed to have been organised by suspected members of the notorious Boko Haram sect last September.
A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the brigade, Major M. O. Etete, in Bauchi yesterday, said the Army said that Abubakar was deployed under operation MESA in the state when he was felled by the bullets of the suspected Islamic extremists during an attack on the prison.
The food items were donated to mitigate the suffering of the family members after the death of their bread winner.
It included 10 bags of rice, 10 bags of maize, 10 cartons of spaghetti and five cans of groundnut oil.
The money and the food items were presented to the widow, Mrs. Laraba Danjuma Abubakar, at Shadawanka Barracks, Bauchi, by the Commander of the 33 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier-General M.L. Raji, who said that the assistance from the state would ease the burden of the family of the late soldier.
He also delivered a condolence message from the state government and its determination to always support the Nigerian Army at all times.
