Ohio evangelist sells his cathedral to Hindus

Television evangelist Leroy Jenkins has sold his longtime base, the nine-acre Healing Waters Cathedral complex, for $1.3 million to a Hindu group, the Yogi Divine Society.

The society, led by India's Hariprasad Swami Maharaj, has U.S. offices in Lake Hiawatha, N.J. The group said the site near two interstate highways will help unite its 800 members in Ohio and neighboring states, and that the property has sufficient room for required separation of men and women while praying.

Jenkins, who has faced various legal problems, had made several unsuccessful attempts to sell since 1989. He plans to conduct services at a Columbus hotel while seeking a new church location.
