Two Haredi men die in suspected murder-suicide

Tel Aviv, Israel - Two ultra-Orthodox men were found shot and fatally wounded in a car in Tel Aviv's Montefiore neighborhood last night, and police suspect the case was a murder-suicide.

The two men, ages 19 and 31, were both volunteers with the ZAKA rescue organization and the police.

A gun was found next to them in the vehicle, and police are investigating whether it was an official police weapon or whether it came from a security firm.

An ambulance was called to the scene following a report of a traffic accident. There, the found the men's Fiat had struck a bench, but but inside, they saw the two men with gunshot wounds, one in serious condition and the other in critical condition.

One died at the scene, the other died a few minutes later at Ichilov Hospital.

One of the two men was the son of a prominent Haredi family from the Eda Haredit sect.

Eda Haredit representatives at the scene said the two had known each other for years, and one would drive the other around after the second man's driver's license was revoked.

At about 10 P.M. last night, Haredi news outlets stopped reporting the incident one by one.

Cellular and online news outlets erased existing stories.

An Eda Haredit source said, "This is a very big story for us. No one knows what led to this. They knew each other for years, they were friends, they never made problems. Very strange what happened."
