Jerusalem, Israel - Israeli police say officers shot and wounded a knife-wielding tourist who threatened to stab visitors at a sacred Christian shrine in Jerusalem.
Police spokesman Shmulik Ben Ruby said the man waved a knife at people visiting the Church of the Holy Sepulcher on Friday evening. He said a police officer on duty nearby ordered the man to put the weapon down and shot him in the leg when he failed to do so.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment. Nobody else was hurt in the incident.
Ben Ruby said the attack did not appear to be politically motivated. No further details, including the nationality of the tourist, were immediately available.
Many Christians believe Jesus was crucified, buried and then resurrected at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
