Nigeria: Bank Robbery Suspects Boko Haram Members - Police

Bakori, Nigeria - The four armed robbers that recently attacked a bank in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State were members of the Boko Haram sect, Katsina State Police Commissioner Umaru Abubakar Manko said yesterday.

Briefing newsmen in his office, the commissioner said investigation into the case had established that the three dead and one surviving suspect of the robbery were students of the Boko Haram leader, late Muhammad Yusuf, and had indeed participated in the recent crisis in Maiduguri, Borno State.

On January 12, 2010, a four-man gang attacked the bank in Bakori where they killed three policemen and a security guard on duty and took away millions of naira before they were intercepted by the police. The surviving suspect, Jamilu Musa, who was paraded by the police, admitted being a student of the Boko Haram leader along with the other three, saying they were all based in Kaduna before they decided to embark on the failed bank robbery operation.

The commissioner of police also paraded two suspects that robbed and killed one person in Danmusa Local Government Area of the state as well as a gang of four that specialized in stealing cars and one Yahuza Mamman who vandalised and stole cables belonging to the Power holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
