The Court of Magistrates has issued an extradition order for a couple who are wanted in France, who had been convicted of torture and holding people against their will, among other offences.
A European arrest warrant had been issued against Alain Schmitt, 49, and his partner, Laurence Liegeois, 42, before they were arrested in Malta last month.
Back in France, Schmitt was the leader of a sect, and had been convicted of torture and ordering members of his group to commit acts of violence. Lawyer Emmy Bezzina said he will be appealing the extradition order.
