Mubajje Bans Opponents From Mosques

Mbarara, Uganda - THE Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje, has banned the opposition group led by Sheikh Zubair Kayongo from conducting prayers in mosques under the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

Amidst tight security, Mubajje told Muslims from the western region that Kayongo and his group had taken the law into their hands and they should not be allowed to enter into the council mosques because they were rebels.

Mubajje was in Mbarara town on Saturday to attend a function for development of Muslims and prayers for the Nation at Hamuuza Primary School, Kakoba.

He said Kayongo and his group had been sued for impersonation.

Muslim leaders in western region who attended the function pledged allegiance to Mubaje and vowed to block the roads when Kayongo and the group goes to visit the region.

The district Kadhi, Sheikh Abdunoor Kaduyu, urged Muslims to support Mubajj, saying his election was based on the manifesto of unity and development of the Muslims.

Clement Kandole, the resident district commissione and Wilson Tumwine, the towm mayor, attended.

A cross-section of Muslims led by Kayongo, who accuse Mubajje of selling Muslim properties, formed a splinter group and vowed to take over the Muslim council.
