Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam - The Vietnam Mennonite Religious Society has been officially allowed to operate in Vietnam under Vietnamese law and its registered charter, with a temporary office located in Binh Thanh district, Ho Chi Minh City.
Nguyen The Doanh, head of the Government Department for Religious Affairs, handed over the Prime Minister’s decision recognising the sect to the chief of Mennonite Vietnam, pastor Nguyen Quang Trung, in Hanoi on February 11.
From now on, the group will have all the legal rights and duties of a full-fledged religious organisation, Mr Doanh stressed as he congratulated the society on the occasion. He expressed hope the sect will continue to develop, further contributing to the national renovation process.
On behalf of the organisation’s executive council, Pastor Nguyen Quang Trung expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for his care and attention to religious sects, including the Vietnam Mennonite Religious Society. He also extended his thanks to local authorities who had actively assisted their registration for operation.
The society has existed and developed in Vietnam over the past more than 20 years, showing its patriotism and dedication to peace, justice, and humanity. It has helped build spiritual life and social ethics.
Currently, the organisation has more than 6,000 followers and 137 dignitaries practising their faith in 24 provinces and cities.
Also on February 11, the Society’s executive board, led by Pastor Trung, visited the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
