Leader of religious sect ends NM prison fast

Los Lunas, USA - The head of a northeastern New Mexico religious sect, Wayne Bent, has ended the fast he began after being sent to prison earlier this week for sexual misconduct.

That's the word today from Tia Bland, spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections.

She says Bent ended his fast at lunch today.

He had refused to eat since he arrived Tuesday evening at the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility at Los Lunas.

The 67-year-old Bent had told prison officials he was on a "religious fast."

Bent was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison for a conviction of criminal sexual contact of a minor and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
