Necedah, USA - A woman accused of helping her religious leader hide a decaying corpse on her toilet for weeks in Juneau County will testify against the leader as part of a plea deal.
36-year-old Tammy Lewis pleaded no contest Monday to obstructing an officer. All other charges, including hiding a corpse and two counts of causing mental harm to a child, were deferred. Lewis was also fined $350.
Lewis and 58-year-old Alan Bushey were accused of hiding 90-year-old Magdeline Alvina Middlesworth's body on a toilet in Lewis' Necedah home. Investigators say Middlesworth and Lewis both were members of a religious sect Bushey led.
A criminal complaint says Bushey told Lewis that God would revive Middlesworth. Investigators believe both of them wanted to collect Middlesworth's Social Security.
Lewis faced more than 35 years behind bars, but as part of the plea deal, Lewis has agreed to testify against Bushey. He is due in court in April.
