Vancouver, Canada — A special prosecutor appointed to look into polygamy-related crimes in Canada said he plans to ask police there to reopen their case.
Terry Robertson told the Globe and Mail newspaper he wants the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to investigate further whether men in the polygamous enclave of Bountiful, in British Columbia, fathered children with underage girls.
"The law says it is an offense for a person in a position of authority over another to touch someone if they are under 18," Robertson told the newspaper.
Bountiful is home to an enclave of the Fundamentalist LDS Church and a group that splintered from the FLDS. Robertson is the third special prosecutor to be appointed to investigate crimes within the polygamous society.
