Mbale, Uganda - The First Lady, Mrs Janet Museveni, has commended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Uganda for their contribution to the health sector in the country as evidenced by the construction of facilities that target the health of the most vulnerable groups like expectant mothers and the children.
Mrs Museveni made the remarks last Friday while commissioning a newly built gynaecology and obstetrics block for Ahmadiyya Muslim Medical centre in Mbale Municipality.
The Shs150 million facility, was erected with funding from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission International.
She noted that the Ahmadiya Muslim sect had exhibited what the real work of religion is by putting up the health facility.
Mrs Museveni said that religions should take care of not only spiritual needs of humanity but also the health, social welfare and others.
Mrs Museveni described the facility as a blessing to Mbale and the neighbouring districts because it will solve the high maternal mortality rate in the region.
She said the maternal mortality rate in the country as a whole is unacceptably high and people are yearning for these modern facilities that can guarantee safe child delivery by mothers and ensure that preventable deaths are avoided.
