San Angelo, USA - The custody hearings for more than 400 juveniles belonging to an Arizona-linked polygamous sect resumed today in Texas with state officials again setting the record straight.
Child Protective Services officials acknowledged today that another young mother from the sect is actually 18.
That acknowledgment, following earlier admissions about four other young mothers, reduces the number of underage mothers in state custody from 31 to 26.
The women now acknowledged to be adults will be released from state custody, but can stay with any children under 1 year old.
More than 460 juveniles were removed last month from the polygamist commune near Eldorado (ehl-duh-RAY'-doh) amid concern that some of the children might have been abused -- such as forced into marriages.
