Napa man not guilty by insanity in killing of cult leader

Napa, USA - A Napa County jury has found a 26-year-old man not guilty by reason of insanity for killing a local cult leader.

Both sides agreed during the trial that Alex Taylor suffers from schizophrenia.

Defense attorneys say Taylor fatally shot 62-year-old George Davis last year because the victim practiced black magic, and Taylor believed that Davis' spirit had entered his head. Davis allegedly recruited local youths to join a cult based on his teachings.

Prosecutors, however, say Taylor still knew the difference between right and wrong. And they say Taylor actually killed Davis because he owed the victim $6,000.

Taylor could be housed in a mental institution for the rest of his life. His fate will be determined at a May 29 hearing.
