Former sect member gets favorable ruling

Salt Lake City, USA - A court victory for a man who claims he wasn't rehired at a cabinet company because he quit a polygamous sect.

Shem Fischer sued the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and its leaders, as well as the company located on the Utah-Arizona border.

Fischer says his employment ended weeks after he protested the firing of another worker who had left the church. When he tried to be rehired, Fischer claims his application was rejected because he wasn't a member of the church.

Fischer wanted to introduce as evidence taped conversations he had with his now-deceased father, who was president of the company.

A federal judge wouldn't allow that, but a federal appeals court has overturned that ruling.
