DPS serving arrest warrants at Jeffs' West Texas compound

ElDorado, USA - Authorities are serving search and arrest warrants at the secretive West Texas religious ranch built by polygamist leader Warren Jeffs.

DPS spokesman Tom Vinger said Friday that the warrants were being served, but said he had no other details. Officials say state troopers began sealing off the compound Thursday night so child welfare investigators could interview children to see if they're safe. Earlier Friday, Vinger said the polygamists were cooperating.

The retreat was built by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The congregation is 1 of several groups that split from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the decades after it renounced polygamy in 1890.

The retreat's located near Eldorado, about 160 miles northwest of San Antonio.
