Two more Roman Catholic church congregations say they plan to occupy their churches in an attempt to block their scheduled closing by the Archdiocese of Boston.
Both St. Jeremiah in Framingham and Sacred Heart in South Natick are scheduled to be closed next month. If their parishioners hold vigils, it will bring to ten the number of parishes where round-the-clock sit-ins are taking place.
The sit-ins are part of a steady drumbeat of opposition to the archdiocese's plan to close or consolidate 82 of its 357 parishes because of changes in church demographics, declining Mass attendance, a priest shortage and other factors.
Early last month, Archbishop Sean O'Malley said he had asked a panel to examine the reconfiguration process.
