Jakarta, Indonesia - The Muslim Lawyers Team (TPM) and several Islamic organizations will send a letter to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono requesting he ban the Ahmadiyah sect, saying they will file lawsuits with regional courts across the country if the President fails to fulfill their demand.
TPM coordinator M. Mahendradatta said here Sunday the TPM and the Islamic groups agreed that the "heresy of Ahmadiyah was final", and that they would give the government seven days after the submitting of the warning to fulfill the demand.
"If the president doesn't respond, or responds negatively, we will file lawsuits against him with regional courts not only in Jakarta, but also in Bandung, Cirebon, Sukabumi, Surakarta... through our branches in the regions," he said, mentioning a total of 14 major Indonesian cities.
Among the Islamic organizations taking part in the plan are the Islamic Community Forum, the West Java Muslim Alliance and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
