Jailhouse wrangle over Druid diet

New York, USA - Federal jailers in New York are grappling with the dietary demands of an inmate who happens to be a Druid priest.

The New York Daily News said Sunday the admitted drug smuggler, who goes by the name Love Sky Dancer, is insisting on unprocessed organic foods that comply with the tenants of the ancient religion.

While the Bureau of Prisons says there is nothing wrong with the standard fare at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, Dancer's attorney says the rules allow for diets tailored to religious requirements.

"We do not mean to diminish the charge to which Mr. Dancer has pleaded guilty, but the Bureau of Prisons must allow inmates who follow a recognized religion to have available the dietary requirements of that religion," lawyer Robert Simels told the Daily News.
