Canadian Archbishop Marcel Gervais has once again admonished Prime Minister Jean Chretien, this time for his government's position on same-sex marriage.
The National Post reported Chretien was sent a letter saying he has lost his way as a Catholic if he supports marriage between lesbians or gays.
Gervais would not discuss the details of his confidential reprimand to the prime minister, the second in two months.
In May, Gervais took Chrétien to task for his pro-choice stand on abortion.
Gervais wrote his latest letter after learning Chretien's government intends to rewrite the traditional definition of marriage to include gays and lesbians, a change the Catholic Church strongly opposes.
"If he's a Roman Catholic, and he believes what the church teaches, he should be with us," said Gervais.
The Vatican intends to issue new instructions to Catholic politicians around the world Thursday, calling on them to make their politics consistent with their faith by opposing same-sex marriage.
