Salt Lake City, USA - Utah's leading news organizations asked a judge today to unseal court papers in the case of polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs.
Lawyers for the news media want St. George, Utah, district Judge James Shumate to unseal an April 5th petition and an order the judge signed the same day.
The news organizations believe those papers concern an effort to get Jeffs' ruled incompetent to stand trial, but it's not known for certain.
The judge has indefinitely postponed a trial without explanation.
Jeffs is the 51-year-old leader of a fundamentalist sect. He's accused of using his power to command a 14-year-old girl to submit herself to a 19-year-old cousin in an arranged marriage.
Jeffs has plead not guilty to the two felony counts of rape by accomplice.
