2 Bajrang Dal men held in missionary attack case

Kanpur, India - Two Bajrang Dal activists were arrested for allegedly manhandling some people at a Christian missionary guest house here charging that religious conversion was going in Kanpur.

Rakesh Tiwari and Rajiv Gupta were arrested last night after a group of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists allegedly manhandled Christian missionaries who were conducting a prayer meeting attended by some foreigners.

The chief metropolitan magistrate court on Monday granted bail to both Tiwari and Gupta.

VHP and Bajrang Dal leaders have condemned the function saying the Christians were indulging in religious conversion.

VHP national treasurer Ram Nath Mahendra said it would oppose all such programmes of conversion of religion.

Demanding thorough investigation into the matter, Bajrang Dal national convenor Prakash Sharma said there were cases of conversion of religion during such programmes earlier also.
