No change to law forbidding headscarves in passport photos - Kyrgyz govt

Bishkek, Kyrgyzistan - The Kyrgyz government has refused to satisfy a request to allow women to wear headscarves for passport photographs, NGO representative Jamal Frontbek Kyzy told journalists on Friday.

"30,000 signatures of Muslim women were collected in support of this proposal," he said.

According to the current legislation, a passport requires a color photo, the face must be clearly visible, and headscarves and glasses are not allowed, Frontbek Kyzy said.
