Arizona man sentenced to 45 days for sex with teenager

Kingman, USA - A Colorado City man was sentenced Wednesday to 45 days in jail for having sex with a 16-year-old girl and conspiring to have sex with a minor.

Kelly Fischer, 39, also was sentenced to three years of probation and required to register as a sex offender, according to the Mohave County attorney's office, which prosecuted the case.

Fischer is a member of Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a sect that practices polygamy. Most of the FLDS church's 10,000 members make their home in the border towns of Colorado City, Ariz., and Hildale, Utah, where for nearly 100 years they have lived an insular life, shunning contact with outsiders.

Six other men who are accused of sexual misconduct with minors in Colorado City face trials in the coming weeks and months.

Prosecutors had presented birth certificates showing Fischer, then 33, was the father of a child whose mother was 17 when she gave birth in 2001.

Two former members of the church had testified at trial about a culture of secret marriages and about seeing Fischer and the child together.

Fischer's attorney, who didn't immediately return a call late Wednesday afternoon, had argued that the testimony was speculation.

Fischer, who was convicted last month, was ordered to begin serving his sentence by November.
