Chakapad, India - Altogether 342 persons belonging to 74 families were reconverted to Hinduism on Sunday at a religious congregation in Chakapad, organised by the Sangh Parivar amidst the shrill cry for a country-wide ban on such practices.
The reconverts from Christianity went through elaborate rituals amidst the blowing of conch shells, shrill cries of Jai Sriram and reciting of sholkas at the venue of the conference, which was attended by RSS chief K S Sudarshan and VHP international president Ashok Singhal.
The reconverts were blessed by Swami Nisachalananda Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of Puri.
Addressing the gathering, Singhal demanded the enactment of a legislation to ban conversion in the country and described the spate of recent re-conversions in Orissa as return to original faith.
