Publisher of book 'Haqeequat' arrested

Jaipur, India - Samuel Thomas, allegedly involved in a conspiracy to publish a controversial book 'Haqeequat' which has certain references against Hindu and Jain deities, was today arrested in NOIDA on the outskirts of Delhi by Rajasthan police.

Samuel, son of M S Thomas, founder of Emmanuel Mission Society, was caught while he was roaming in NOIDA around 1200 hrs by a team of Rajasthan policemen who had launched a search for him for the past one week, Kota Superintendent of Police Sanjay Agarwal told PTI over phone.

Father and son duo were wanted in the case registered against them under Section 295-A of IPC last month for allegedly spreading hatred among communities and religion, the SP said adding Samuel's father is still at large.

The book was seized from the mission's library, the SP said.

A Kota court had rejected their bail plea earlier this month and issued the non-bailable arrest warrants against the duo, the SP said.

The mission had come into limelight last year when it had organised a religious discourse in Kota drawing violent protest from Sangh parivar outfit who had alleged that the organisation was involved in conversion.
