New lawsuit filed against polygamist leader Warren Jeffs

Salt Lake City, USA - A woman who says she was forced as a young teen to marry an older man is suing the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The civil suit filed today in Salt Lake City accuses Warren Jeffs of arranging the union.

No hearing date has been set.

The lawsuit against Jeffs and the church corporation asks for a jury trial and seeks unspecified damages.

The woman is identified in court papers as M-J.

The suit says the nonconsensual spiritual marriage, the required sexual relations and M-J's resulting pregnancies have been physically and emotionally devastating to her.

A message seeking comment from Jeffs -- left at church offices in Eldorado, Texas -- wasn't immediately returned.

Jeffs has been indicted in Arizona on charges of sexual assault and conspiracy to commit sexual conduct on a minor.
