Washington, USA - A Colorado congressman says a provision in a farm subsidy law sponsored by Utah Senator Bob Bennett could end up helping religious groups harbor terrorists.
Part of the bill was signed last week by President Bush and is intended to protect churches where illegal immigrants work as volunteers.
Bennett says he added the language to the farm bill after it was brought to his attention by lawyers for his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who use volunteers and are concerned about liability.
Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado says it could allow religious groups to protect and aid terrorists if they are volunteers for religions. Tancredo notified House leadership. House Republicans are still deciding how to respond.
