Madurai, India - The leader of the Hindu Makkal Katchi (Hindu Peoples' Party) A R Kalidoss, famous for his inflammatory speeches, was hacked to death by a two-member gang in broad daylight at Ismailpuram in this city.
He is the third Hindu leader to be murdered in this city after Prof. Paramasivam, an RSS activist and Rajagopalan of the Hindu Munnani.
Police said that the gang members, armed with knives and scalpels, accosted Kalidoss when he was going to a shop and stabbed him.
The gang chased him when he ran away and again stabbed him, in the presence of a large number of people.
Kalidoss died on the spot.
The gang members later escaped on their two-wheeler.
The murder led to tension in the area and shopkeepers downed shutters and people remained indoors
Sniffer dogs were, which were pressed into service, ran towards the Vaigai river bank, but not any further.
The Commissioner of Police Vijaykumar and Deputy Commissioner Rajendran visited the spot.
A massive hunt has been launched to trace the culprits. "We have got some clues and we are confident of nabbing the accused," police said.
