Warsaw, Poland - The late Pope John Paul's personal secretary is going home to Poland.
Church officials there say Pope Benedict has appointed Archbishop Stanislaw Dziwisz (ZHEE'-vish) to be the archbishop of Krakow.
He replaces Cardinal Franciszek Macharski (frahn-CHEE'-shehk mah-HAR'-skee), who asked to retire three years ago due to his age. He stayed on at the request of John Paul.
Dziwisz is one of only two living people mentioned in John Paul's will, and was at the pontiff's side when he died.
Dziwisz will probably be elevated to cardinal since the Krakow archbishop traditionally holds that rank.
