Lucknow, India - The All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board today accused Islamic scholars and the All India Muslim Personal Board of ignoring the issue of divorce and expressed serious concern at incidents of divorce.
"The Muslim Personal Law Board and our ulemas (scholars) have ignored the issue of talaq (divorce) and adopted a silent posture", Women Personal Law Board Chairperson Shaista Amber told reporters here.
With a view to create awareness among muslims about divorce a "talaq conference" has been organised at Lucknow on May 14 next, she said.
Chief Justice of Uttaranchal High Court Justice Haider Abbas Raza would be the chief guest at the conference. The president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, the parallel board formed by the muslims of barelvi sect, Maulana Tauqir Raza Khan would preside over the conference, Amber said.
