Nairobi, Kenya - A Catholic church in Nakuru, Kenya, was desecrated and robbed on April 23, in the latest in a series of attacks on Church properties.
A gang of thieves entered St. Peter's parish church in Nakuru sometime on Saturday, systematically desecrating the church building and the Blessed Sacraments before stealing property.
The thieves broke into the tabernacle, scattering Eucharistic hosts across the floor of the church. Then they destroyed statutes of Jesus and the Virgin Mary. Next they broke into the rectory, where they drank altar wine and stole several priestly vestments. The bandits left with the tabernacle, chalice, and amplifiers from the church's sound system. They also stole computers from a technical school run by the parish.
The faithful at St. Peter's gathered for Sunday Mass in the parish hall, since the church building was sealed off by police detectives looking for evidence.
The incident was one of several in recent weeks in which Christian churches have been targeted by thieves and vandals.
