"The Simpsons" can do more than make you laugh. The cartoon family can apparently also teach you about Christian principles, even though Homer once described Christianity as the religion with "all the well-meaning rules that don't work in real life."
A vicar in London says he's going to teach classes at the end of the month based on each of the four characters: Homer, Marge, Bart and Lisa.
The Rev. Robin Spittle says the Simpsons are "a church-going family and they make moral decisions." He says sometimes he agrees with the decisions and sometimes he doesn't. He says either way, they make for a great discussion.
Spittle says each episode has Christian themes; temptation, for instance. He said "Both Marge and Homer have found themselves being offered the opportunity to play away from home." But he says they both avoided extramarital affairs. He said "You can't get much more of a Christian message than that."
Spittle once used Harry Potter to teach the meaning of Easter.
